A P1.8 LED Screen for Digital Menus and Promotions in a Restaurant

A GTA restaurant replaced printed menus with a P1.8 fine-pitch LED screen, sharp enough to read up close, showing a digital menu and promotions that update instantly. The same screen switches to live sports or events, and we bench-tested it before installation.

Installed: P1.8 fine-pitch LED screen for digital menus and promotions

What the owner wanted

A way to show the menu and current promotions that could be changed any time without reprinting, and that would make the food look good from across the room. Printed menu boards go out of date the moment a price or a special changes.

Why P1.8

The “P” number on an LED screen is the pixel pitch: the distance between pixels, in millimetres. A P1.8 screen has pixels 1.8 mm apart, which is fine enough that menu text stays sharp and food photos show real detail even when customers are standing close to it at the counter. Coarser screens look great from far away but break up into visible dots up close.

Testing before it goes on the wall

LED screens are built from modules, and a dead pixel or a mismatched module is much easier to deal with on a bench than once the screen is mounted above a kitchen. For this job we assembled and ran the screen on the bench first to check the modules, colours and connections.

What the screen does now

  • Digital menu that can be updated on the spot
  • Dynamic promotions: specials, new dishes, seasonal offers
  • Can be switched to live sports for a sports-bar feel, or used as a backdrop for parties and events

One screen, several jobs. LED walls can also be built for outdoor use and sized to fit the space, which isn’t true of a regular TV.

Other restaurant work we do

Menu screens are often part of a bigger fit-out. For restaurants we also install background music systems, cameras with the wiring hidden (a common request from owners who don’t want cable on new finishes), and larger LED walls with sound for karaoke or events. Doing it all with one installer before opening day is simpler than coordinating three.
