Owl Vision Solutions replaced an outdated commercial security setup in the GTA with one integrated system: 3 intercoms and 7 access readers, a DSC intrusion alarm, licence plate recognition cameras at the gate, and thermal cameras connected to live remote video monitoring.
Where it started
The property had a security system that had grown piece by piece over the years. Panels, power supplies and cabling had been added wherever there was room, with no clear layout. It still worked, mostly, but it was hard to service, hard to expand, and nobody could say with confidence what each box did.
The owner wanted a single, clean system that covered who comes in, what happens after hours, and every vehicle through the gate.
The full package
Access control: 3 intercoms, 7 readers
We installed and integrated three intercoms and seven access readers. Visitors call through at the entrances; staff use credentials at the readers; and supported entry events can be reviewed in one system. Recorded events and retention depend on the controller, software and configuration.
Intrusion alarm: DSC
A DSC alarm system covers the doors and interior zones. DSC panels are a long-standing, hard-wired platform that many monitoring stations support, which makes them a reliable backbone for a commercial site.

Licence plate recognition at the gate
ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) cameras at the gate record vehicle activity, with plate readability depending on the selected cameras, positioning, lighting and vehicle movement. Instead of scrolling through hours of footage to find a truck, you search by plate.
Thermal cameras with live remote monitoring
Thermal cameras detect heat and can help detect people in darkness, with performance depending on the equipment, placement, weather and detection settings. We connected them to CHeKT, a remote video monitoring platform, so detections can be checked live on video rather than just recorded.
A cleaner equipment wall
All of it now lives on an organised backboard, with panels laid out in order and cabling dressed so a technician can trace any run quickly.

Why integrate instead of patching
- One place to check. Entries, alarms and gate traffic can be reviewed together when something happens.
- Service access. An organised layout helps a technician trace connections; diagnosis time depends on the fault and the equipment involved.
- Room to grow. Adding a door or a camera later is a planned extension, not another box squeezed in.

Frequently asked questions
Do you have to replace an entire commercial system to upgrade it?
Not always. We first check which cabling, panels and devices are still sound. Reusing good infrastructure keeps the cost down; replacing everything only makes sense when the old parts can’t be integrated or supported.
What does licence plate recognition do at a gate?
Licence plate recognition (LPR) cameras read the plates of vehicles coming and going, which gives you a searchable record of who entered and when.
Why use thermal cameras on a commercial site?
Thermal cameras detect heat rather than visible light, so they can pick out people at night or in poor weather across open areas such as yards and fence lines, where ordinary cameras struggle.
