Securing a 100,000 sq ft Warehouse in One Week: Alarm, Access Control and a 100″ Monitoring Screen

Owl Vision Solutions secured a 100,000 sq ft commercial warehouse in the GTA in one week: an Ajax wireless intrusion alarm on every entry point, Akuvox access control and intercoms on doors and gates, and a 100-inch display in the main hallway for live camera feeds and system status.

The challenge

A building this size brings its own problems. The footprint is wide, there are a lot of doors and gates to cover, access has to be controlled for both tenants and staff, and the schedule was tight. On top of that, we took the job on while short-handed.

The goal was a system that worked as one piece from day one, not three separate products bolted together.

What we installed

Intrusion alarm: Ajax

We used Ajax wireless intrusion protection on every entry point and critical zone. On a large building, wireless sensors save days of cable runs to each door, and Ajax’s long radio range suits wide floor plates. Owl Vision Solutions is an Ajax Authorized Partner.

Access control and intercom: Akuvox

Doors and gates were fitted with Akuvox readers and intercoms so tenants and staff can be managed from one system: who can get in, where, and when.

Monitoring: a 100-inch display

A 100-inch display was mounted in the main hallway to show live feeds and system status. It gives the team one place to see what’s happening across the building, and it makes the security visible to anyone walking in.

The groundwork

In an open warehouse, cable runs in conduit along concrete walls rather than inside drywall. Most of the work you never see later: measuring, bending and mounting conduit, and placing boxes so every device has a clean, protected path back to the equipment.

The result

The full low-voltage rollout was finished in one week. Alarm, access control and monitoring were working together from day one, with no loose ends left for a second visit.

Planning a warehouse or industrial security system?

A few things we’d tell any warehouse owner before starting:

  • Count every opening first. Overhead doors, man doors, gates and roof hatches all need a plan, and they add up fast on a big building.
  • Decide who needs access, and when. Tenants, staff, cleaners and deliveries usually need different rules. Card, fob or phone access with a log beats handing out keys.
  • Put the alarm, access control and cameras on one plan, even if they’re different brands, so nothing falls through the gaps between installers.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to install security in a large warehouse?

It depends on floor area, ceiling height and how much cable has to be run. This 100,000 sq ft building took one week. Planning device locations and cable routes before the crew arrives is what keeps a large job on schedule, so every project starts with a site visit.

Can the alarm, door access and cameras be managed together?

Yes. Planned as one system, the alarm, access control and video are easier to run: the owner has fewer apps to manage, and staff can watch live views on a shared screen, like the 100-inch display in this warehouse’s hallway.
